“Your reports explain what happened, not what to do next.”

Bookkeeping, tax preparation, and EMR reports answer backward-looking questions. Running a practice takes forward-looking ones. These articles cover the reporting, KPIs, and monthly rhythm that make numbers usable for decisions.

Common root causes

  • Revenue and labor reported as single lines
  • Financials that arrive too late to act on
  • KPIs tracked without a decision attached
  • No forward cash view

Metrics that expose it

All staff compensation (provider and administrative wages, commission, bonuses) plus employer payroll taxes ÷ Total net revenue (services plus retail, after discounts and refunds)
Rebooking rate
Completed appointments where the patient booked a future appointment before leaving ÷ All completed appointments
Revenue per compensated provider hour
Net service revenue produced by a provider ÷ Hours that provider was compensated for (including unbooked time)
Deferred revenue coverage
